2003

Our beginning

Our story began in 2003, when founder Tony Gartland met industrial chemist Derek Todd on a Brewlab course in Newcastle.
2005

First milestone

What started as a shared passion for flavour and quality became one of Yorkshire’s earliest microbreweries, launching with a bespoke 20-barrel brew kit in 2005.

Growing strong

Early beers like Saltaire Blonde and Cascade Pale quickly won over drinkers, and we’ve been growing ever since, now producing over five million pints a year, including our multi-award-winning Triple Choc stout.

Yorkshire values

Through it all, our values haven’t changed. We believe beer should be high-quality, easy to enjoy, and brewed with purpose.
2017

Taking control

In 2017, we expanded with a state-of-the-art 40-barrel brew kit, followed by our own packaging facility, allowing us to take full control of quality and offer contract brewing services.
2026

Celebrating 20 years of Saltaire Brewery

2026 marks our 20th birthday of selling our famous beer! From our Taproom in Shipley to fridges across the UK and beyond, we’re proud to make beer that feels local - wherever you find it!
