Our story
Saltaire is built on the legacy of visionaries and makers. From a town known for progress and craftsmanship, we carry that spirit forward...only now, we craft beer.
Our story began in 2003, when founder Tony Gartland met industrial chemist Derek Todd on a Brewlab course in Newcastle. What started as a shared passion for flavour and quality became one of Yorkshire’s earliest microbreweries, launching with a bespoke 20-barrel brew kit in 2005.
Early beers like Saltaire Blonde and Cascade Pale quickly won over drinkers, and we’ve been growing ever since, now producing over five million pints a year, including our multi-award-winning Triple Choc stout. Through it all, our values haven’t changed. We believe beer should be high-quality, easy to enjoy, and brewed with purpose.
In 2017, we expanded with a state-of-the-art 40-barrel brew kit, followed by our own packaging facility, allowing us to take full control of quality and offer contract brewing services. From our Taproom in Shipley to fridges across the UK and beyond, we’re proud to make beer that feels local - wherever you find it!
